I’m talking about business development companies (BDCs). BDCs invest in other companies by providing financing as an alternative to elusive traditional loans. PennantPark Investment (PNNT) is one such BDC that’s proving successful for the businesses it funds — middle-market U.S. companies — and investors alike, paying a 10.30 percent dividend yield. Even though shares are down year-to-date, the company’s strength in revenue and net-income growth, as well as return on equity, should power it for the next couple of years.
