Tablets and Mobiles to Make Up for PC Sales Drop in 2014 (MercuryNews.com)
One of the world’s most respected technology research firms, Gartner Technology Research, announced yesterday from the Las Vegas, Nev., Consumer Electronics Show (CES), that it expects the industry to ship 2.5 billion computers and mobile devices in 2015. That figure represents an 8 percent increase over the total number of computerized products shipped last year. The composition of that total number reflects a significant decline in PC units shipped, but — as you might expect — an increase in the number of mobile phones and tablets shipped. Gartner explained that it expects 263.5 million tablets to be produced in the coming year — up 47 percent from last year’s 179.5 million units. And, in the best news of all for investors,
Gartner expects that trend to continue through 2015.
