Amazon Working on Manufacturer-to-Consumer Shipping [Yahoo! Finance]
Amazon is working with household goods manufacturer Procter & Gamble (and soon will be joining forces with Kimberly Clark) to ship goods directly from their place of manufacture to consumers. This efficiency may result in lower prices for consumers and growth in the relatively small market of consumer staples purchased via the Internet. “Right now, only 2% of American households get their staples — toilet paper, paper towels, etc. — online, that’s still $16 billion of revenue. So if they could just move the needle a couple percentage points, it’s a potential big growth area for them,” says Aaron Trask, host of the Daily Ticker.
